Explanation of design:
The protective shield separates the driver from the back seat passengers and also blocks off the front passenger from direct contact.

Design Issue: The shield is too big for the taxi and imposes itself on the passenger seat and seat controls. There is no way possible to turn the knob for the seat control because the plastic extends to the bottom of the seat and blocks the way. It also makes it difficult to pay and receive change because the driver has to reach over the top to hand back the change. In an effort to protect the driver the open area really serves no protection at all.

Recommendation for improvement:
Take it out completely, would be my suggestion. If you decide to keep it, then the knob to control the seat should be placed on the right side of the seat. Another solution would be to measure the seat first to determine the correct size. According to Norman, p 224, we should exploit natural mappings between "actual system state and what is perceivable by sight, sound or feel." "Response compatibility is the spatial relationship between the positioning of controls and the system or objects upon which they operate and should be direct as possible and have an analogical relationship between them." The shield is out of place and is not compatible with the seats or seat controls. A new design based on exact measurement would solve the issue.
